Sub-optimal Beer

Sub-optimal Beer

Despite massive gains made recently by the Craft Beer industry, beer made by Bud, Miller, Coors and other giants make up the vast majority of beer consumed in the world. Why do so many people drink this stuff? We taste it so you don't have to. (Listed as adults only for the occasional f-bomb, but otherwise safe.)

For the second installment of the Sub-Optimal Beer podcast, Thomas, James, Garrett, Rusty Seth, and myself gathered at the Highlander for the battle of the heavyweights. MORE LIKE LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHTS, AM I RIGHT? Sigh. There aren't really any surprises in here regarding either of these two beers, but it is 25 worthwhile minutes of spirited, entertaining banter at the expense of a two large multi-national conglomerates. Also, James coins what could be a new name for the podcast around the 23:42 mark.

'Tis the season for drinking beer in the sun, which means 'tis also the season for beers that have been enhanced with any number of Summery flavors, the most popular being lime. The success of Miller Chill, which launched one year ago, has prompted Anheuser-Busch to blitz the market with a "limey" product of their own. The consumer can only benefit from this kind of competition, right? Listen as Jen, Rusty, Duane, Garrett, and Tony navigate the citrusy beaches of lime beers. At least we are safe from scurvy.

Interview - Herb and Kim of Dept. 13

Show notes

In this September 29 interview, Rusty and I chat it up with Kim and Herb of Dept. 13. Kim recently wrote, directed, and acted in Goth Girls Gone Wild. We talk about the many Dept. 13 projects currently in the works, and go off on tangents about (among other things) public access TV, and vampires and how lame they are.

About halfway through the interview, the fire alarm started going off in the building next door. So we stopped recording, cracked open some beers, and stood around on the balcony watching the scene unfold. The interview resumes after the fire department has turned off the alarm and we're satisfied that there's not an actual fire to watch.

Misadventures in podcasting, part II

Amber already gave you the lowdown on her misadventures in podcasting, so now here's one of mine...

The most egregious mistake I've made so far was at our very first podcast party. Things were going swimmingly. There was palpable energy in the room after we recorded the first North Fulton Drama Club and GA Political Podcast episodes. The liquor was flowing, and everyone gathered around Duane to grill him in a Meet Your Podcasters segment. He was hilarious and everyone was having a great time. In my case, perhaps, a little too much of a good time.

The apartment was stocked with Sweetwater, Sam Adams, Bud Light, Flying Dog, and Terrapin, and I went through a few of each of them (except the Bud Light, blech). After the group interview with Duane was over, there was a brief lull, followed by frantic requests to record some PSAs and commercials. In my drunken stupor, I had saved Duane's last podcast but forgotten to quit the recording program and re-launch it to start a new podcast. So, I overwrote Duane's podcast with the PSAs and commercials.

We lost a really kickass podcast because I was shitfaced. Go beer! Err...
