March 11, 2008 — GM president, Troy Clarke, answers questions about the number one automaker at the Atlanta Press Club. General Motors Corp. (NYSE: GM), the world's largest automaker, has been the annual global industry sales leader for 77 years. Founded in 1908, GM today employs about 266,000 people around the world. With global headquarters in Detroit, GM manufactures its cars and trucks in 35 countries. In 2007, 9.37 million GM cars and trucks were sold globally under the following brands: Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, GM Daewoo, Holden, HUMMER, Opel, Pontiac, Saab, Saturn, Vauxhall and Wuling. GM's OnStar subsidiary is the industry leader in vehicle safety, security and information services.

Pulitzer Prize Winner Anthony Lewis spoke at The Atlanta Press Club on Feb. 13, 2008.

Two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Anthony Lewis was a columnist for The New York Times op-ed page from 1969 through 2001. In addition to his long and distinguished career with the Times, Mr. Lewis has been a lecturer on law at the Harvard Law School and a visiting professor at the Universities of California, Illinois, Oregon, and Arizona, and, since 1983, the James Madison Visiting Professor at Columbia University. His previous three books are Gideon's Trumpet, which has sold nearly a million copies in over forty years in print; Portrait of a Decade; and Make No Law: The Sullivan Case and the First Amendment. He lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Meredith Vieira, Co-Anchor of Today Show, Speaks to the Atlanta Press Club on February 12, 2008.

Meredith Vieira sits atop the number one morning news program in America. She has had an extensive career in television news extending across three major networks, all while keeping the philosophy of "family first." After growing up in New England and graduating magna cum laude from Tufts University, Vieira began her journalism career at WORC radio in Worchester, MA. She accepted a series of positions until she made a leap to the CBS flagship station in New York. Vieira landed a plum job at 60 Minutes but decided to leave the program when her second child was born. Vieira then took a position with ABC, moving from a news-magazine show to The View. She was selected to replace Katie Couric on Today in 2006.

Georgia Speaker of the House Glenn Richardson Unveils His Legislative Overview at the Atlanta Press Club Newsmaker Luncheon on Thursday, January 24, 2008.

The 2008 Legislative Session may be one of the most challenging in Georgia's history. The state faces decisions on water, taxes, transportation, education and healthcare. If there are falling state revenues, the Legislature must make some critical decisions. As one of the most powerful politicians in the state, Richardson gives an overview of the session, which includes his controversial property tax proposal and his ideas for the future of Grady Hospital. Richardson, who is a Republican from Hiram, graduated with degrees in political science and law from Georgia State University.

Tom Brokaw spoke to the Atlanta Press Club at the Commerce Club on Dec. 6. He is the author of four bestsellers: The Greatest Generation, The Greatest Generation Speaks, An Album of Memories and A Long Way from Home. A native of South Dakota, Tom Brokaw graduated from the University of South Dakota with a degree in political science. He began his journalism career in Omaha and Atlanta (as editor of the 11:00 p.m. news for WSB-TV) before joining NBC News in 1966. Brokaw was the White House correspondent for NBC News during Watergate, and from 1976 to 1981, he anchored Today on NBC. He was the sole anchor and managing editor of NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw from 1983 to 2004. He has won every major award in broadcast journalism, including two DuPonts, a Peabody Award and several Emmys.
