March 11, 2008 — GM president, Troy Clarke, answers questions about the number one automaker at the Atlanta Press Club. General Motors Corp. (NYSE: GM), the world's largest automaker, has been the annual global industry sales leader for 77 years. Founded in 1908, GM today employs about 266,000 people around the world. With global headquarters in Detroit, GM manufactures its cars and trucks in 35 countries. In 2007, 9.37 million GM cars and trucks were sold globally under the following brands: Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, GM Daewoo, Holden, HUMMER, Opel, Pontiac, Saab, Saturn, Vauxhall and Wuling. GM's OnStar subsidiary is the industry leader in vehicle safety, security and information services.

Meredith Vieira, Co-Anchor of Today Show, Speaks to the Atlanta Press Club on February 12, 2008.

Meredith Vieira sits atop the number one morning news program in America. She has had an extensive career in television news extending across three major networks, all while keeping the philosophy of "family first." After growing up in New England and graduating magna cum laude from Tufts University, Vieira began her journalism career at WORC radio in Worchester, MA. She accepted a series of positions until she made a leap to the CBS flagship station in New York. Vieira landed a plum job at 60 Minutes but decided to leave the program when her second child was born. Vieira then took a position with ABC, moving from a news-magazine show to The View. She was selected to replace Katie Couric on Today in 2006.

Georgia Speaker of the House Glenn Richardson Unveils His Legislative Overview at the Atlanta Press Club Newsmaker Luncheon on Thursday, January 24, 2008.

The 2008 Legislative Session may be one of the most challenging in Georgia's history. The state faces decisions on water, taxes, transportation, education and healthcare. If there are falling state revenues, the Legislature must make some critical decisions. As one of the most powerful politicians in the state, Richardson gives an overview of the session, which includes his controversial property tax proposal and his ideas for the future of Grady Hospital. Richardson, who is a Republican from Hiram, graduated with degrees in political science and law from Georgia State University.

Truett Cathy, founder of Chick-fil-A, is listed in a "billionaire's club" with fellow Georgians Ann Cox Chambers, her nephew James Kennedy and Home Depot co-founders Bernie Marcus and Arthur Blank. He reveals some of the secrets of his success in this speech, given at an Atlanta Press Club Newsmaker Luncheon Dec. 12, 2006.

Born in Eatonton in 1921, he holds the distinction as the only native Georgian in this top ranking. Cathy opened his first restaurant in 1946 and has grown his fast-food empire based on Biblical principals. Even though the restaurants are not open on Sunday, Chick-fil-A ranks as the second-largest quick-serve chicken chain in the United States. Cathy is known for his benevolence through his WinShape® Foundation, which has given more than $23 million in scholarships to Chick-fil-A restaurant employees since 1973.

Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas spoke to the Atlanta Press Club at a Newsmaker Luncheon on Thursday, October 18, 2007.

Justice Clarence Thomas is a native of Pin Point, Georgia, a small community near Savannah. He is the second African American to sit on the high court. He graduated from Holy Cross College with a degree in English and received his law degree from Yale University. Thomas served in the Reagan administration and rose to chairman of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

After the retirement of Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall, the first African American on the court, President George H. W. Bush nominated Thomas to replace Marshall. After a highly publicized confirmation hearing, Thomas was sworn into the Supreme Court on October 23, 1991.

Considered one of the most private high-profile figures, Thomas discussed his exceptional journey from the depths of poverty in the segregated Deep South to his position at the pinnacle of power in the nation's capital.

Governor Sonny Perdue spoke to the Commerce Club at this Atlanta Press Club Newsmaker Luncheon Nov. 5, discussing taxes and water among other subjects.

Governor Perdue is serving his second term as Georgia's 81st Governor. He has launched initiatives to create what his administration describes as "a New Georgia," whose goal is to create a state government more responsive to the needs of its citizens. A native of Houston County, Governor Perdue is a licensed veterinarian and small business owner. He and his wife, First Lady Mary Perdue, have four children and seven grandchildren.

Dr. Julie Gerberding spoke at the Atlanta Press Club's Newsmaker Luncheon at the Commerce Club in Atlanta today. She has been the Director of the CDC and the Administrator of the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry since July 2002. She also serves as a Clinical Professor of Medicine at Emory University and an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of California at San Francisco (UCSF).

Before becoming CDC Director, Dr. Gerberding was Acting Deputy Director of the National Center for Infectious Diseases, where she played a major role in leading CDC's response to the anthrax bioterrorism events of 2001.

She earned a B.A. in chemistry and biology and a M.D. at Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio. She completed her internship and residency in internal medicine at UCSF, where she also served as Chief Medical Resident at UCSF. She also earned a M.P.H. degree at the University of California, Berkeley in 1990.
